You might have seen some stunning photos on social media of Nusa Penida. These are great, but often portray a slightly unrealistic view of the destination.
It’s easy to visit this island for a day, but I recommend staying at least one night to get the full experience. I’ve put together some potential 1,2, and 3 day itineraries to help you with your planning.
Broken Beach
Broken Beach is a stunning cove located on the southwest coast of Nusa Penida. It is a natural pool with a leftover rock arch that is a popular photo spot for many visitors. The best time to visit this attraction is before 10 am as it can become crowded with day tour buses after that.
The best way to reach the area is by a motorbike or car. From the main town of Toya Pakeh, it will take about 45 minutes to arrive at this location. The first part of the road is asphalt, but the last portion towards Angel’s Billabong and Broken Beach will be a rocky ride for travelers.
You will also find a number of cliff-side cafes at this location. These are perfect for a plate of nasi goreng or a glass of refreshing coconut water. If you are lucky, you may even see some manta rays in the water below.
Before you leave for Broken Beach, make sure that you visit Kelingking Cliff and Angel’s Billabong. This will give you a complete experience of the west side of Nusa Penida and allow you to kill two birds with one stone. You can also save a map of the area on your phone to help you navigate more easily.
Diamond Beach
You’ve probably seen photos of this unique T-rex shaped beach, but it’s even better in person. You’ll be blown away by its beautiful blue waters and its stunning cliffs. The best time to go is in the morning before it gets too crowded.
This beach requires a steep descent alongside the cliff walls so you can’t just park and walk right in. You’ll have to make your way down a large staircase that’s been carved out of the rock, but there are plenty of photo opportunities along the way. Once you’ve made it down, it’s a great spot to swim and relax for a few hours.
The only downside to Diamond Beach is that it can be quite dangerous if the waves are too big. There are also hidden dangers like powerful rip currents and a rocky seabed, so it’s important to be careful.
This is one of the more off-the-beaten-track spots on Nusa Penida, but it’s definitely worth visiting! It’s located on the southeastern part of the island and has some truly amazing natural scenery. You’ll be able to see the sea turtles, manta rays, and even dolphins while snorkeling or diving around this area. It’s also a great place to watch the sunrise over the Raja Lima islands and listen to the geckos chirp in the trees at night.
Thousand Islands
If you’re looking for a great view, head to the Thousand Islands viewpoint on the east side of Nusa Penida. This is one of the most popular destinations on the island and is known for its sweeping views of the islands and the beach below. The hike to this location is a bit of a challenge due to the many stairs that are needed to navigate. However, for those that cannot manage the climb, there are many adjacent vantage points that provide similar views without the need to hike uphill.
Another popular spot is the secluded Kelingking Beach on the south side of the island. This is a beautiful beach that has a unique curved coastline and cliffs. While you may have seen pictures of this beach online, it is even more breathtaking when you visit it in person. This is a great location to watch the sunset and has few tourists, making it a peaceful place to visit on your Nusa Penida tour.
As you can see, there are so many things to do on this small island! It’s best to stay on the island a few days to ensure that you have enough time to visit all of these amazing places. If you’re looking to take a tour, there are several companies that offer tours of the island and will pick you up from your hotel or other locations on the mainland. Just be sure to book your tour early in order to avoid any last minute delays.
Goa Giri Putri Temple
Nusa Penida is a relaxing island that offers visitors the chance to hike, lay out on beaches and explore its remote culture. Although the island is not for party goers and getting around can be challenging due to the poor roads, it’s still a great place to visit if you want to relax in nature.
The first stop on the nusa penida tour should be the Goa Giri Putri Temple, which is located inside a cave and is one of the most unique places in Bali to visit. The temple is home to the largest cave on the island and is adorned with five shrines. Each shrine has water from a different source, which is believed to contain natural healing powers. The temple attracts local Hindus who come here to perform a purification ritual and wash away their sins.
Another must-visit on the Nusa Penida tour is Paluang Cliff, which is located right next to Kelingking cliff and features amazing scenery with swings and photo platforms. The cliff is also a popular spot to watch the sunset, as it has stunning views over the ocean.
